iPads
iPads can have many uses in the classroom here are some ideas and apps. There are many more apps than I could possible include here and many more that will be created in the years to come. This is just a starting place with a few apps that I have taken the time to explore.
The first app is a QR reader. QR codes can have many uses in the classroom for learning and can be used to communicate with parents and other classroom guests, or with the students.
All tablets and smartphones can download QR readers. There are many sites that offer free downloads that are quick to download and easy to use.
If you want to create a QR code there are also many free sites. I used qrstuff.com and it was really easy to use and very user friendly with this site you could easily create your first QR code in minutes. Below is a QR code that I created that will take you to a Pinterest page that has lots of ideas on how to use QR codes in the classroom.

Uses: Here are some ideas of how to use the QR codes as a learning device in the classroom. The students could be sent on a scavenger hunt where they answer questions based on information that get from scanning QR codes set around the school or room. Students could also use QR codes at math stations to check their answers although proof of attempting the problem and successful solving would be needed to ensure learning. Another idea wound be to use the QR codes to provide directions at stations so that should students not hear or forget the directions they can simple scan the code and get to work.
The QR codes can be used to communicate with parents, guests, and students. Teacher contact information or a recorded self-introductions could be left on a QR code on the door the classroom. If all parents had devices then any information normally communicated to parents could be sent via a QR code.
Reflection: This is a great tool with many applications. The fact that it is free and easy to use is also a great bonus. This is a tool I will definitely be using.

Soundcloud/Audioboom audioboom is for apple products such as the iPad and soundcloud is for android devices. Both tools are similar and are apps that can be used to record, upload, and share audio clips.
Uses: This could be used by students to record verbal responses. This tool is easy enough to be used by students and allows for quick easy recording. The teacher could set up a recording booth and have students answer a question every day or simple record a short clip saying something that they have learned. This tool could also be used to adapt learning for students who struggle with writing or public speaking.
Reflection: I think that this is a great tool to use if a teacher wanted to try oral diaries or needed to make accommodations for struggling students.

Educreations is a site or app that can be used to create videos that show step-by-step problem solving. The screen is like a white board that can be written or drawn on as audio is being recorded. This tool is free and easy to learn.
Screencustomatic is a similar site for computers. It does the same stuff as educreations but on a computer.
Uses: This tool has multiple uses. It could be used by the teacher to create videos that can be watched to help students who are struggling with a concept such as in math. It could be used by an art teacher to show step by step directions for working through project or assignment. It can also be used to record lectures so that students can listen to them again if they feel the missed important information. This tool could be used to create videos for students who are absent. This tool combines visual and auditory so complex tasks can be shown and explained this also makes it great for a diversity of learners.
This tool could also be used to to understand students thought processes as they go through a problem by having them solve a problem while talking themselves through the steps.
Reflection: I think that this is a very useful tool that could help many struggling learners. This is a great way to make step-by-step videos for struggling learners. The site is easy to use and it does not take much time to create the videos.

iTunesU is a site that has lots of courses most of them at a college level but some courses for younger students.
Uses: If a teacher needed to brush up on some content or was looking for clips to show a class then this could be done a great site. There are also complete courses at the elementary level that the students could go through.
Reflection: This is a good site to know about but not one that is likely to be used very often. It is not so much for daily use and just a great place to check for content and material to add to a lesson.
